Winter Zoom Book Study of “Dignity”

January 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In times of stress and division, it can be hard to respect those we disagree with or feel different from. This series will give us tools to help us do so, and a place to discuss the possibilities and challenges.

“Dignity” by Donna Hicks draws on her extensive experience in international conflict resolution and on insights from evolutionary biology, psychology, and neuroscience. She explains what the elements of dignity are, how to recognize dignity violations, how to respond when we are not treated with dignity, how dignity can restore a broken relationship, why leaders must understand the concept of dignity, and more. Hicks shows that by choosing dignity as a way of life, we open the way to greater peace within ourselves and to a safer and more humane world for all.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu said of “Dignity”: “This book is a must read for those who want to experience peace in their everyday lives and peace in the world around them. Without an understanding of dignity, there is no hope for such change. If you want to find the weak links in a democracy, look for where people are suffering. You will most likely see a variety of violations. If you want peace, be sure everyone’s dignity is intact.”

Facilitated by NH Peace Action board members, Sandra Yarne & Amy Antonucci. The facilitators will help to create space for a safe and deep discussion of the issues raised in the book and will make sure everyone gets a chance to share. Our conversations will be shaped by all who attend. The goal of our book study is to expand our knowledge and understanding of topics related to peace and to have a space where members can connect with each other, learn and build community.

There is a minimal $10 charge to join this group, which will be limited in size to 12 participants. As with all NH Peace Action Events, if cost is a barrier, please email doreen@nhpeaceaction.org.

Once you have purchased your ticket, you will receive the Zoom registration link. Pre-registration with Zoom will send you the Google calendar invite. The group will meet on January 12 & 26, 2023, February 9 & 23 and March 9 & 23.
