Peace & Justice Conversations: War in Yemen: Where is it Now?

July 31, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Please join NH Peace Action in welcoming Hassan El-Tayyab, Friends Committee on National Legislation’s legislative director for Middle East policy for a discussion on the status of the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

.With critical support from the United States, the Saudi-led coalition’s war and blockade in Yemen beginning in 2015 created the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.  Years of war have destroyed vital infrastructure, cut off access to humanitarian aid, and been responsible for as many as 370,000 deaths, mostly of civilians.  Since the war started, many people of conscience have been working to stop it, and over the past year real progress has been made, including historic peace negotiations between Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen in April 2023.  Hassan will join us to update us on the current state of affairs, how peace activists have made a difference, and what we can do next.

Hassan El-Tayyab is FCNL’s legislative director for Middle East policy.  Prior to joining FCNL in August 2019, he was co-director of the national advocacy group Just Foreign Policy and played a major role in the successful passage of the War Powers Resolution to end U.S. military participation in the Saudi-led coalition’s war and blockade on Yemen. He is co-author of a children’s book called “We Stand Up for What’s Right” inspired by passage of the Yemen War Powers Resolution to tell younger generations born after 9/11, who have never lived in an America not at war, that war is not the answer, is not inevitable and there are better ways to resolve differences.

About NHPA’s bi-weekly Zoom Peace & Justice Conversation Series: 2020’s upheavals brought us to a new moment of reckoning and possibility. How do we want to live in the world? What do we value? How can we make the changes we’ve been yearning for? NH Peace Action has been engaged in working for change for decades. We’d like to bring you into these conversations about issues and options for the future.  There is no charge to attend, but your contributions in any amount are greatly appreciated.

Free & open to the public.  RSVP HERE
