Russia’s brutal February 2022 invasion of Ukraine has, for good reason, attracted widespread condemnation across the West. But despite the tremendous influx of weapons from NATO countries, including the latest US shipment of internationally banned cluster munitions, it appears that a victory on the battlefield is not forthcoming. Meanwhile, there is an ever greater danger that this conflict will become a wider war or a nuclear confrontation. Medea Benjamin will not only talk about her book, which outlines the context for this war, but will discuss the politics in the White House and Congress, the positions of various presidential candidates, changing US public opinion, the wider global context, and what we can do to build a broader and more effective peace movement.
Medea has been an advocate for Peace and Social Justice for more than fifty years. She is a co-founder of Codepink and Global Exchange, and is the author of ten books. Her newest book, The War in Ukraine: Making Sense of a Senseless Conflict, reviews the history of this conflict and lays out the concrete steps that can be taken to bring this conflict to an end.
