Film: The Christmas Truce

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ Exeter

Film Showing and Discussion of

The Christmas Truce of WWI

Friday, December 14th, 7 – 9 pm

at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Exeter, 12 Elm St, Exeter NH

During WWI soldiers from opposing sides laid down their guns and celebrated Christmas together.

In our world today, we sometimes feel unable to bridge differences.  Come be inspired by a historical instance of connecting against all odds and transcending violence: The Christmas Truce of WWI.

Christmas Eve 1914, an astonishing event – up and down WWI’s Western Front unsanctioned, grassroots ceasefires broke out and enemy soldiers met peacefully to sing, exchange gifts and play soccer. This documentary from The History Channel brings us eyewitness accounts of the incredible event.

Discussion following the film will be led by NH veterans.

Free and open to the public; donations accepted.

Homeless Memorial Vigil

4:00 pm - 6:00 pm @ City Plaza, Concord, NH

For the annual Homeless Memorial Day Vigil when, in the midst of the holidays, we pause and come together in a reverent way to honor the lives lost and the human cost of homelessness on our community.

In the past year 10 individuals who were homeless in Concord have died. We gather on the Solstice to  honor these lives, lift their stories and elevate the voices of those with something to share about these lives lost. For some, this is the funeral and closure they never got for their loved one.

More details available soon.
